Dust Control on Roads: Three Programs, One Goal
Adapted from Steve Vitale, Midwest Industrial Supply, Inc.

Watering alone is no longer enough, particularly on mining roads, storage areas and production roads where dust is both a compliance issue and an operating cost. Midwest approaches dust control as a site-specific program, not a standard product, with a four-step process: discover, diagnose, design, deliver.
1. Managed Service: Midwest Handles Everything
Delivery, application, scheduling, inspections and reporting are handled by Midwest specialists. A comprehensive version includes air quality monitoring and regulatory support. Measured results: a US EPA study at two steel mills measured over 90% reduction in PM10 and over 75% in PM2.5, 30 days after application. A one-year study by the Desert Research Institute and the California Air Resources Board measured 98% control at 3 months, 95% at 6 months and 90% at one year. On 28 km of mining road, a client maintained over 95% control and saved more than one million liters of water per year.
2. Guided Application: Your Teams, Our Equipment
Midwest supplies EnviroKleen®, a portable sprayer, training and technical support; your teams apply it using your vehicles. At a steel mill, this program maintained over 85% dust reduction for four years.
3. Enhanced Watering: the Same Trucks, More Effective Water
A concentrated additive, DustPro, is added to each tank. Passes can drop from 6 to 10 per day to 1 or 2, meaning approximately 75% less water and 50 to 70% of truck hours freed up.
Which One Should You Choose?
It depends on your staffing, equipment and reporting requirements. You can start with a trial in one area and then expand the program.
